The Government: Wah, we didn’t get what we wanted. Let’s shut down!

Sure, this was funny at first. I saw the jokes, the pictures, the posts, and the references, and I laughed at them. But a few days ago I was told something unsettling. “We have to be thrifty, we only have 250 dollars to get through the month. We’re going to have to borrow money from you.” I thought that that was ok, that we would get money from my sisters starting up college again and getting money from the Veterans Administration. Well turns out that the paperwork didn’t get all the way through when the shutdown happened. So there goes that money. Now what really made me freak out was today my dad- My old, grizzled, serious dad -Was scared. I could hear it in his voice. Next month, because my dad is a retired veteran, if the government is still shut down,  we won’t receive the money that normally gets us through the month. Meaning stuff unknown will happen to my family.

Awh, poor you. I’m sorr-

NO.

Because I’m lucky. At least I can make it through this month. I have a chance at living normally next month, but there are people out there who lived entirely off of welfare and government money who are actually going hungry right now. There have been people dying from this.

This isn’t funny.
