In a combat scenario, it makes sense to fire like this. (even then it depends on positioning and role)
Nowadays archery is more of an exercise in technical skill than combat prowess. Guns kinda ruined archery for combat, so it started to take a different role. Ex. kyudo. I’d argue it’s similar to how martial arts is now compared to what it was in the past.
